Campaign 2020 MessageAloha My Kaua`i Ohana,
Since taking office, I have been actively working on making our county whole and addressing our island’s continual growth without compromising our valuable resources. I have introduced over forty bills including our South Kaua`i and Lihue regional plans, the affordable housing ARU (additional rental unit), a commercialized home use tax classification, a farm worker housing amendment, a much needed assessed tax cap limiting rising property taxes, and an amendment of our emergency response providing an avenue for our county to recoup costs on rescue expenses. I have created avenues to reduce the cost of county liabilities by implementing alternative dispute resolution and helped solidify an alternative retirement plan for part-time employees, providing savings to our county. For more information on everything I have focused on in this last term, my lessons learned, and what I intend to accomplish if re-elected, please see my detailed progress report. Above all and most importantly, I have worked well within our current Council at problem solving and reaching the best outcomes for our island and if allowed, will continue to seek opportunities to increase accountability, transparency and community engagement. I’m proud to be a sensible voice on our Council providing solutions and best practices for the future issues our island faces. My goals remain unchanged- to build capacity and efficiencies within our County government and stand for the protection of our most precious resources. Outside of my focus at Council, I have mobilized a young group of Hawaiian farmers to form a non-profit in west Kaua`i focused on rearing a new generation of farmers focused on diversification of agriculture on Kaua`i. I have been focusing my attention to the preservation of our watersheds and important water issues. I have been engaging our future leaders in building capacity for us to act courageously while moving forward together as one. There’s much more to do. We have a housing crisis, traffic continues to grow, new industries need to be developed for deserving jobs, our open spaces and cultural access continues to be threatened, and the obstacles of equality need to be overcome. We can and will persevere through anything the world has to offer. We will do so with aloha and a commitment to hard work. Our success will be determined by our willingness to continue difficult conversations, while building our capacity and our competency levels by developing standards, agreements and policies that will move us towards solutions no other place or people are courageous enough to accomplish. This vision of inclusiveness and abundance will only be achieved if we concentrate on the investment of human capacity and preservation of our precious resources. I am running for a council seat, because I believe I can contribute to the transitions needed in this emerging era of global unity through my knowledge of building sound leadership, representing the values of Kauai, ushering in a shared vision for our future and in turn affecting a cultural shift in how government operates and does business. Please allow me to continue fortifying this solid foundation within our government system by supporting my campaign for another term on our County Council. I am seeking contributions to assist my candidacy. If I am able to raise at least $3,000 in small contributions of $100 increments prior to the end of the day on Monday, June 30th, I will then be able to have this amount matched by public funds in time to impact the Primary election. Any contribution no matter how small is welcome and needed. Online contributions are the easiest and can be made at donate to support Mason's campaign or checks can be mailed to Na Kua Aina O Kauai, 121 Lihau St. Kapa'a, HI 96746. Most important is your vote in helping me raise the bar on our campaign for positive change. I also hope you can join me and my `ohana at one of our campaign events. Me Ka Ha'aha'a, Mason Chock |
