Aloha Kauai

Born and raised on Kauaʻi, I am a community servant with  love in my heart for Kauai and its people.  I have no self-serving agenda, only an interest to see leadership in action through an inclusive process that brings people together for shared solutions rather than be divided through divisiveness

About Mason
Balance and Responsibility by All for Kaua'i.

Since returning to Kauai after graduating from Kamehameha and UH Manoa in 1995, I have dedicated my life to community service.   I first began my service on Kauai as a firefighter and spent 12 years in that position as a rescue specialist until my rescue helicopter crashed while on duty ending my career.  While in the county I began expanding my service into the community.  I worked along with a few classmates in the development of Kanu I Ka Pono Charter School and The Waipā Foundation.  In those first few years home I worked in Hawaiian enrichment programming and became the Executive Director of The Native Hawaiian Education Association.  In 1999 a few of our friends and firemen came together to build a challenge ropes course at Waipā and thus we began our company, Kauai Team Challenge.  Our focus began in experiential learning and team building including mentoring for at-risk youth.  This led to leadership development and involvement with Leadership Kauai of which I went on to become a Program Director and later the Executive Director for 5 ½ years.  Since Leadership Kauai, I’ve expanded our company to do business as Kupu A’e Leadership Development.  Our focus is on leadership development for socio-economic change and positive growth focused in the sectors of education, business and government.  Today, I am one of forty Certified Master Facilitators of The Leadership Challenge in the world.

I believe fostering leadership behaviors in our government will have a huge impact on our island’s success in dealing with our issues and needs in reaching the outcomes we desire.  If given the opportunity, I will continue to contribute to our government by modeling, facilitating and fostering a foundation of sound leadership in every aspect of our system.  I also believe we will only progress and move towards a successful future when we are very clear about our priorities, our shared vision and are courageously wiling to act on them.  If we choose, we can be an example for the rest of the world on how to collectively achieve our desired lifestyle while living in balance with our environment and each other.  If elected, I will continue to
work as a collaborative leader on the Kauai County Council as well as engage and represent community voices to co-create the future we deserve.
